The former Malikov family palace, in Baku, now houses the National Ethnographical
Museum of Azerbaijan
. Acquired in the early 20th century, the Malikov family palace on Qosha Qala was one of the most impressive in Baku, reflecting the family’s status in the city.
In 1930, the Soviet state confiscated the palace (as part of the political repressions faced by Teymur Malikov). It eventually became a textiles factory and fell into serious disrepair (see below, the palace pictured, probably around the mid-twentieth century). Since independence it has been fully restored.
